WHAT IS INTERDISCIPLINARY COSMOLOGY?
It
offers a "bigger picture" than science's conventional view of reality.
In addition to empirical research, it includes intuitive and other
sources of knowledge, but subjects them to verification by the
scientific method.
Paul
believes a cosmology based only on a single discipline (whether
physics, astronomy, biology, mathematics, evolutionary theory, or
metaphysics) omits many areas of the human experience of the
universe, including the mind of the cosmologist. Given the quality of
21st-century consciousness research, an interdisciplinary cosmology
would suggest a dimension of consciousness (conterminous, coterminous,
and coincident with matter and energy) animates all life forms in our
universe.
Paul first took on the
role of a cosmic puzzle master in researching his book Our Solarian
Legacy. It suggested that ours is a self-learning universe where
all life reflects the conscious, purposeful, adapting, and evolving
nature of its Source. A good overview of this "bigger picture" can
be found at Tom Nielsen's website on Our Enfolded Universe. Click here for definitions of a scholar and here for a graduate student.
| WHO IS PAUL VON WARD?
An interdisciplinary cosmologist and independent scholar, Paul is internationally known for the hypothesis of an AB (advanced beings) intervention in human development; his theory of natural spirituality in an
evolving, self-learning universe; and research on the
survival of a personal soul-genome. His current books on these topics are
We've Never Been Alone; Our Solarian Legacy; and The Soul Genome.
Paul's academic background (Florida State, Harvard and other
institutions); his military, diplomatic, international executive career;
and research on five continents keep his provocative publications grounded
in emerging science and credible human experience. (See his CV for educational and career details.)

HIS WORLDVIEWPaul assumes our universe is multidimensional, part of a living multiverse: With an evolutionary imperative to self-actualize, its inherent processes require struggle, experimentation, and adaptation. This suggests all species, at some level of consciousness, evolve in each generation to co-creatively shape the future of the whole.

Corroboration of We've Never Been Alone AB-Intervention Hypothesis
During and following his research for We've Never Been Alone and its earlier version Gods, Genes & Consciousness, Paul has archived reports by other researchers whose unintentional evidence tends to corroborate the AB-Intervention hypothesis. They include material from many academic disciplines and various professions. Over time he will make available on this website their insights and findings that take on new meaning when examined in the context of a human history inextricably interwoven with more advanced species. Check here for occasional postings.

After people read We’ve Never Been Alone, they frequently ask “Do you believe in God?”
After learning of the ordinary AB-human origins of their religion, they want a new concept of God. See response to the right.

Interdisciplinary Cosmology and Human Self-Governance
An interdisciplinary cosmology has ramifications for all aspects of life. Paul's books and articles and other parts of this website deal with them. But given the social, health, environmental, and economic challenges now facing humans, the most fundamental is development of a new system of governance appropriate for 21st-century crises.
By undertaking interdisciplinary research into physical and social evolution, one discovers that we are part of a self-learning and self-evolving universe. It becomes evident that all levels of life are involved in experimentation and change, with both positive and negative ramifications. As significant creatures of such a universe, humans (individuals and in groups) require a comparable form of self-governance in order to survive and fulfill their potential.
For a complex society, some form of representative government is most appropriate for this stage of human evolution. Experiments with such a model have blossomed in many cultures, but the United States is the largest such experiment on the planet. And it is at a point of existential crisis!
In comparison with more successful, but smaller democratic nations, the American society is experiencing a break-down involving its civil society and official institutions. Based on the insights produced by a new approach to history and new scientific discoveries about evolution and the nature of consciousness, this website promotes the circulation of ideas conducive to a more healthy and productive system of self-governance. See articles and comments for this debate at the Self-Governance page.

Discovery of a Pyramid Complex in Visoko, Bosnia
In 2005, archaeologist Semir Osmanagic discovered several structures covered by topsoil and vegetation. An international scholar of worldwide pyramidal structures, he recognized artificial angles and coordinates that characterize pyramids on five continents. Excavations and testing have dated artifacts from 3,500 to 12,000 BP.
Osmanagic's initial judgment that they were constructed by an intelligent culture has been confirmed by respected authorities from Egypt, Russia, Germany, Croatia, France, Brazil, Poland, and the UK. In a May 2010 site visit Paul publicly urged a UNESCO-level investigation. Click on photo at right to access project site. In December 2010 Semir announced discovery of hundreds of meters of an underground tunnel approaching the Pyramid of the Sun.

BELOW ARE SOME OF THE COSMOLOGICAL ISSUES DEALT WITH IN PAUL'S WORK AND INTRODUCED ON THIS SITE
|
DO WE KNOW WHO HUMANS ARE, REALLY?
With over six billions of us on
Earth, you'd think we should know. But, the fact is that we don't know
where we came from, what we're doing here, or how we fit into the "big
picture." Read the musing of a poet about the need for a new concept of humankind.
Some
think humans are accidents in a chance-driven universe. Others think
this universe is a natural result of activities in another universe or
cosmos, but have no idea of how that one got started. Others believe we
and our universe are the results of causative force, but attributions
of "purposefulness" to this "causative force" reflect an almost
infinite diversity of worldviews.
- Scientists avoid dealing with anomalous aspects of human experience and nature.
- Believers fear to examine the origins of their doctrines.
- Educators indoctrinate instead of helping students to become self-learners.
- Institutions defend beliefs with arrogance and force.
Paul
challenges us to question orthodoxy (wherever it is found) and to
test its assumptions against the evidence that seems to deny them.
DO ANY OF THESE
QUESTIONS INTEREST YOU?
- What do I really know about the birth of life and the origin of my species?
- Does my life experience to-date suggest that human life serves a larger purpose?
- What do I assume about reality beyond my physical senses?
- What evidence suggests the possible existence of nonhuman life-forms?
- How do other species relate to my own?
- If the universe has multiple dimensions, how do they affect my life?
- What role do humans have in our apparently self-evolving universe?

Paul
believes any credible attempt to develop a viable worldview for the
21st century must fully integrate any epistemology available to humans to enhance their knowledge of the universe. Consequently, he works systematically with quantum
theory, subtle energies, biological evolution, string theory, genetics,
creationism, religion, spirituality, history, archaeology and
anthropology, consciousness studies, mind-body interactions, UFO/ET
studies, frontier and esoteric science, and other areas of research to
synthesize a continually evolving human story.
WORLDVIEWS SHAPE OUR PERCEPTIONS AND BEHAVIORS
Karl Popper wrote "Science must begin with myths, and with the criticism of myths." Our worldviews (implicit, largely subconscious, assumptions about the nature of reality) go far beyond what we really know to include the world of myths and assumptions that are based in faith. In interdisciplinary cosmology we question all of our assumptions, hypothesizing more plausible explanations and testing them against all available data. Read more...
AB-INTERVENTION HYPOTHESIS
Paul's book Gods, Genes & Consciousness
analyzes evidence for the "intervention hypothesis," the theory that
beings more advanced than humans (ABs) have been, and to some extent
still are, involved in human development. He explores the "ancient
astronaut" theory as a plausible explanation for the existence of
artifacts that suggest civilizations more advanced than the Neolithic
Era people existed prior to the Earth-wide cataclysm of 11,500 BP. His
areas of research include the two new disciplines of exobiology and
exopolitics, respectively the search for extra-planetary life forms and
nonhuman cultures. (Access this perspective on this website page.) Read more...
REINCARNATION HYPOTHESIS
Another major area
of Paul's current research focuses on evidence for successive
reincarnations of individual, transcendent souls. He has developed an
Integral Model to test the reincarnation hypothesis. His multi-factor evaluation tool (either professional
or self-administered) assesses
confidence-levels for possible identification of individual past-life
connections. Click here for a brief television interview with Paul that gives an overview of this scientific approach.
Paul's new book, The Soul Genome:
Science and Reincarnation, based on primarily self-identified and
objectively evaluated cases of possible linear reincarnation was
published in March 2008. The book contains robust case studies that
illuminate areas of the human personality and behaviors that have not
been previously thought of in terms of reincarnation. Hear Paul on Coast 2 Coast radio.
QUESTIONING SUPERNATURAL ASSUMPTIONS
Paul's books raise questions about the validity and historical authenticity of claims made by religious institutions about the origins of their beliefs and how they came about. Gods, Genes & Consciousness particularly focuses on the origins of the three major Western supernatural religions.
